Purps, I think you can nurture the desire of earthly paradise, based on what you learnt from the JW religion but on terms which are not the WTS's ones, that is exerting yourself with preaching, meetings, stifling your human desires. Instead, I'm convinced we can rely on Jehovah's ability to read hearts and He approves whoever He sees it fitting, regardless of our belonging to such or such organization. He is well beyond our petty religious chauvinism, that's a fortunate thing, and in the end He certainly doesn't want to prevent us from enjoying life according to how He gifted us, in just a normal way. Once JWs have understood that, they are freed from organizational bondage.

giving too much one way is quite often a manifestation of emotional neediness and as such is not the sign of a balanced relationship, which is based on mutual giving. As said by an earlier poster, it will rather put off the recipient. In the worst case, it will draw him/her to take advantage of the situation and fool the giver, illustrating the saying that a person whose friendship (feelings) you try to buy is not worth the money you put on him/her. Good to be a giver, provided a deserving receiver is facing.

Being Prejudiced
by purplesofa inmy daughter(she is feeling much better btw) sat down with me a little while ago to tell me about a conversation she had with her boyfriend over the phone.
the guy he works with is black and seems he has been calling him the n word, i don't think to his face, but my daughter has heard him say it.
so she says something to him about it and how wrong she thinks it is.

Pre-conceived ideas ...previous experience.
In some places, racism is closely related to political posture and intricately mixed with nationalism (whether you call it colonialist attitude or, conversely, anticolonialism) as it is clearly the case in french territories where the locals want to manage the money from the "Metropole" without interference from the europeans.

I don't know if one must call it racism but the first time I experienced different treatment based on skin colour was in a french overseas territory where I found that locals, mostly black, would purposely adopt an insulting attitude toward the white, small telling things like overtaking them while queuing at the post office, and the tone they would take to speak to them. I've married a mixed blood girl but it was within the JW congregation and I must admit you wouldn't find such racist attitude with JWs, so it was all the more a malaise when I would face it outside. No surprise, under such conditions, that we white JWs would limit our frequentations to JWs.

Do you feel embarrassed, humiliated, anger that you were a Jw?
by LouBelle ini ask because some posters say they felt totally humiliated, or wonder how they could have been sucked in, or some are extremely bitter and angry about their past.
over the nearly 4 years i've come to totally accept that i was a jw, but have made my peace, and honestly can say i've forgiven, if you will, that part of my life.
totally moved on and do not have negative feelings about it.

I'm still a nominal JW (not sure I'm in their statistics since I don't preach, though) but I'm not embarassed because, somehow, I've tailored that religion down to my personal needs and I feel I'm in no obligation to measure up to the goals they put in front of JWs as outward signs of being a faithful christian : preaching so many hours, attending so many meetings, etc. That position spares me a lot of stress since I've picked up the pieces of creed that suit me and attend the few meetings and parts of assemblies which I elect to. So, when asked by outside people if and why I'm a JW, I don't feel I have to defend an organization at all cost but I can present a qualified explanation of my beliefs, which still come mainly from JW stock.

They need to make sure their publishers are spiritual or give them the boot. The WTS NEEDS the monthly report to keep the congregation clean of slackers who could give a bad example to the rest of the flock.
I must say that they don't annoy me that much concerning non reporting. About one year ago I told the elder on the phone that preaching one hour a month was equal to not preaching at all and that he could just as well count me as inactive, that's what he did and it was the end of it. I turn up to WE meetings with my wife once a week, they seem happy to see me, we shake hands and they leave me in peace, they don't hound me, never raise any question about resuming preaching. Q-U-I-E-T.

Enjoy sleepless nights ahead (advice to Mrs Derek, sleep on the side of the bed against the wall), but many satisfactions too, giving the bottle at night will build up relationship with baby Derek.

What I find really heartwarming is the fact that the US brothers and sisters still compose a hefty 1/7 of the total number of those who will pass A. God bless America.
